Mike Sargent, CPA
I am a midwesterner having earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business and Economics from UW-Platteville in 1967. I had spent over two years in the School of Engineering studying Civil Engineering and I still am a bit of an engineer. After a two year break in the U.S. Army, I entered UW-Milwaukee where I earned an MBA specializing in business systems and organization. After completing the MBA, I completed the requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.
For the first 10 years of my professional career, I was an International Internal Audit Manager traveling in Europe and Asia completing audits of subsidiaries of the corporation, a strategic planner and materials manager. This was followed by 25 years during which I was employed by a number of different companies where I served as CFO. This included a hospital, a defense contractor, a bronze factory, a manufacture of mirrors and a large number of community colleges. Over my entire career I have been part of the adjunct faculty at a number of colleges and universities. In addtion, I have been professionally preparing income tax returns, personal, corporate, partnership and estates since 1970. I especially enjoy working on the more unusual cases such as forest depletion, debt forgiveness, sale of investment property and audits. I want my clients to have the best representation when dealing with the IRS and WI Department of Revenue. I also volunteer with the Senior Corp of Retired Executives (SCORE) mentoring small business and conducting workshops on business systems and how to use Quickbooks.
